Strike, Shuffle, Groove: A Night With Shelter In Place
Shelter In Place Radio Event: Chipper’s Lanes - 9/14/2025
Bowling alleys usually smell like nacho cheese and regret, but Shelter In Place managed to turn Chipper’s Lanes into something way cooler: a living room hangout with a dance floor tucked between pins and arcade cabinets. Entry was free, the only “ticket price” being however many games of bowling it took you to break 150.
The community vibes were dialed in from the start; handycams floating around the crowd so everyone could take a turn documenting the night, tables of Magic the Gathering and Uno running parallel to mini dance parties on the lanes, bead-stringing, and plenty of arcade chaos. It felt less like an “event” and more like your friend’s basement gathering… if your friend’s basement had disco lights, a bowling ally and four DJs rotating through chilled-out house sets.
Speaking of: Vintage Wasabi opened things up, sliding into groove mode before Sholo, TM047, and Chairless took turns keeping the BPM smooth and steady till close. The setup was killer. The DJ booth was perched right on the center lanes, transforming the bowling alley into an oddly perfect stage.
Nothing about the night screamed “industry.” It was pure hangout culture — a big communal exhale where everyone played a part. Shelter In Place isn’t just about nostalgia, it’s about making space for connection in between the beats.
While they seem to just be getting started it felt refreshing and gravitational. I can’t wait to see this get massive, because even if there was 200 people there, what they’re building is a community and will never feel like another industrial cash grab. Although this was my first Shelter In Place event, I’m positive it won’t be my last.
